What is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a dental procedure that tackles infections deep in the tooth. The dentist removes the damaged nerve and pulp tissue from inside the tooth, then cleans and seals the space. Most patients find that modern root canal treatments are no more painful than getting a filling. The procedure gets rid of pain caused by infection and inflammation, so patients often feel relief afterward rather than discomfort.
How Root Canal Treatment Works
During a root canal, our dentist numbs the area completely before making a small opening in the tooth. The infected pulp is removed through this opening using specialized tools that clean out the canals inside the tooth roots. After cleaning, the canals are filled with a rubber-like material and sealed to prevent future infection. Most teeth need a crown after a root canal to prevent breaking. The entire process typically takes one or two visits depending on the complexity of your case.
